The master of haute horlogerie

Andersen Genève has been creating high-end watches for collectors for over four decades. Svend Andersen established his Geneva based workshop in the late 1970’s after having spent nine years at Patek Philippe in their Atelier des Complications. Over the course of his career Andersen has made over 100 one-off custom pieces and developed complications for watches including the annual calendar, perpetual calendar, and jumping hour calendar. He has become recognised worldwide for complicated watches that appear in small series.

Proudly independent

Referenced by media as being a legendary figure in the world of independent watchmaking, Svend Andersen gained recognition when he co-founded the AHCI – Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants in 1985. Over the years ANDERSEN Genève has welcomed and trained watchmakers including world names including Frank Müller, Felix Baumgartner and Philippe Quentin. This philosophy has been maintained to this day and the level of innovation and craftsmanship is ensured by two master watchmakers who work together with Svend Andersen in their atelier in Geneva.

From Copenhagen to Geneva

Born in Denmark in 1942, Svend Andersen knew his life’s purpose from an early age, leaving practical education to undertake a four-year apprenticeship as a watchmaker. With a diploma from the Danish Watchmaking School, integrated into the Royal Technological Institute of Copenhagen, he set his sights on the watchmaking capital of the world, arriving in Switzerland in 1963. In 1969 Andersen achieved fame by creating the seemingly impossible when his first invention – the ‘Bottle Clock’ was displayed at the "Montres et Bijoux" Show.

Nothing is impossible

This unique creation gained him the nickname "watchmaker of the impossible" by the watch community and in the international press. This feat was also noticed by Patek Philippe and, in 1969, Andersen joined their ‘Atelier des Grand Complications’ before he started his own brand in 1980. Since then, Andersen has been honoured with world records from the Guinness Book, such as the smallest calendar clock ever made - about the size of a match head - in 1989 or the thinnest world time clock ever made in 1994.
