About Some Fruits III

The object was refined using the traditional Japanese wood-firing technique Shou-Sagi-Ban, which JJ Pela has made his own. Reminiscent of a pear, the object features a pewter stem and seeds inside as well as the natural structures of the alder wood, the organic contours of which have been strikingly emphasised by JJ Pela’s process. The final effect of shape, form and structure is achieved by grinding and polishing with felt discs. Hardening and protection against burnishing is achieved with preparations specially patented by JJ Pela.

About JJ Pela

After more than two and a half decades as a freelancer in the production of interior design objects, JJ Pela established himself successfully as an independent artist who has since focused on the creation of expressive wooden sculptures. Pela uses only naturally occurring broken wood and treats it using the traditional Japanese Shou-Sugi-Ban method. JJ Pela made his first appearance on the international art scene by taking part in the exhibition "Abstract Art & Art Mind" at The Brick Lane Gallery in London in 2022.
