About Pencils

“Pencils” was moulded from a 100-year-old telegraph pole. It was one of the first telegraph poles erected in the Warsaw area. Proud owner of it, or rather of the manor house and the land on which both stood, was Count David Jakub Jaworski. The sculpture was inspired by the Chrysler Building in New York, as both the column and the building were marvels of engineering - created in the beautiful Art Deco era. The sharpened end of the pencils is an aluminium casting from the remains of an Audi A8 from 1996.

About JJ Pela

The Warsaw born artist JJ Pela is constantly inspired by life and loves to tell stories in a multi-layered and poetic way. His sculptures illustrate and manifest all his thoughts, fears, questions, joys, love – life itself. The wood from which his sculptures are made comes from trees that have naturally turned into scrap wood and fire is his medium and tool.

About JJ Pela

After more than two and a half decades as a freelancer in the production of interior design objects, JJ Pela established himself successfully as an independent artist who has since focused on the creation of expressive wooden sculptures. Pela uses only naturally occurring broken wood and treats it using the traditional Japanese Shou-Sugi-Ban method. JJ Pela made his first appearance on the international art scene by taking part in the exhibition "Abstract Art & Art Mind" at The Brick Lane Gallery in London in 2022.
