About Matilda's Eye

JJ Pela was inspired to create this object by a photo of his daughter's eye - it is made from the wood of a 150-year-old acacia tree that was brought down by a storm. "I look through the window of your eyes, to see you." Frida Kahlo

About JJ Pela

After more than two and a half decades as a freelancer in the production of interior design objects, JJ Pela established himself successfully as an independent artist who has since focused on the creation of expressive wooden sculptures. Pela uses only naturally occurring broken wood and treats it using the traditional Japanese Shou-Sugi-Ban method. JJ Pela made his first appearance on the international art scene by taking part in the exhibition "Abstract Art & Art Mind" at The Brick Lane Gallery in London in 2022.
