About Birds Talk XII
The artwork is made of alder wood that has been processed by beavers into broken wood and even shows traces of beaver teeth in the structure of one part of the wing. The figure is cast in light brown resin and both elements are bound together with a piece of tin rope. The wooden object was carved with a chainsaw and finished with the Japanese wood firing technique Shou-Sagi-Ban, hardened with water and protected with natural, water-based varnishes that penetrate deep into the structure. Smoothness and shine are created by a felt polish, which finalises the work process and creates a changing perception of the colour tones of the burnt wood, depending on the perspective and lighting conditions from which the object is viewed.
