The artwork is made of tin and linden wood, which is first given its shape and contours with the help of a chainsaw. Birds Talk VII was refined using the traditional Japanese wood-firing technique Shou-Sagi-Ban, which JJ Pela has made his own. Fire comes into play in the next stage of the creative process. Depending on the desired burning structure, different fire intensities are used. The depth effect or shading is achieved using embers that are blown in with compressed air. When the sculpture is finished, it is ignited with an intense flame until it reddens and then hardens in water like steel.
