Design for greater well-being

Dr Patrik Künzler followed in the footsteps of Nobel Prize winner Susumu Tonegawa and studied an area of medicine known as the "limbic system" at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The term describes the part of the brain responsible for emotional reactions, learning and memory recall. He was excited by the idea of devising devices that could improve human well-being, happiness and brain performance - all based on scientific learning about the limbic system.

Think out of the box - backwards

Patrik decided to work "backwards" and invent physical devices that trigger the mind. This is how the Limbic Chair was born, combining functional and emotional aspects in a revolutionary way. Together with his business partner and head of technology, Mark van Raai, Patrik founded Limbic Life with the determination to optimise the connection between brain and body using evolutionary science.

From theory to practice

Dr Künzler and his team deliberately broke away from the cold, traditional and aesthetically focused design of objects so that people can achieve more and connect more naturally within their surroundings. The Limbic Chair was developed over years of research, together with the best minds at MIT. The result: five programmable sensors make it possible to control various software programmes with the seat.

Awarded quality from Switzerland

From everyday tasks such as navigating on a desktop computer to immersive applications such as VR games or injury rehabilitation, the chair simplifies and supports the way the user works. It is the first realisation of this progressive vision and the winner of the Design Prize Switzerland 2019 in the "Furniture" category. Manufactured in Switzerland, this pioneering product gives the verb "sit" a whole new meaning.
