La Chèvre D’Or

From Château to Relais & Châteaux

Converted in the early 1930s into the “Château de la Chèvre d’Or”, the entrepreneur Robert Wolf decided to buy it in 1953 and to turn it into a restaurant. The initial spark came in 1956, when Walt Disney was won over by the magnificence of the place and advised Wolf to turn the restaurant in Èze into a leading hotel.

Robert Wolf, restricted by the geography of the site, could not extend the residence as he wanted. So, he decided to acquire some private houses in the village, which he gradually transformed into individual hotel rooms. The hotel became one of the six stages on La Route du Bonheur founded in 1954 by Marcel Tilloy, ancestor of the Relais & Châteaux restaurant chain.

Stars and starred cuisine

Over the years, La Chèvre d’Or increased the room numbers and the restaurant’s cuisine became one of the best reference of the "haute gastronomie française". Under the direction of chef Elie Mazot, the house received its first star in the Guide Michelin in 1978. In 2000, thanks to chef Jean-Marc Delacourt, La Chèvre d'Or received its second star, which it still holds today.

Since then, personalities from European monarchies, politicians, rock stars and Hollywood celebrities have settled in Eze. Among the most famous are Marlene Dietrich, Elisabeth Taylor, Roger Moore, Robert de Niro, Leonardo di Caprio, Bono and many more. Finally, La Chèvre d'Or offers something for everyone: a magical view of the bay, luxury service, accommodation and gastronomy – the quintessence of French lifestyle.
