Born rebellious

Growing up in rough circumstances, rebellion against the existing social system and injustice characterised his life from an early age. He succeeded in transforming his life into art and elevating it to the status of art. Over the past 30 years, he has created more than 3000 paintings and written over 1000 poems. Hardly any other artist in contemporary history is so expressive in word and image at the same time.

Food for thought

Denkstahl stands for thought-provoking impulses. Thematically, the artist's works are about confronting the "illusory world". He reflects, irritates and provokes in order to repeatedly question the meaning and justification of what already exists. He loves playing with words as much as with colours – alienating and twisting the meaning of common symbols.

With a little help from his friends

Denkstahl has been working as an artist for more than 30 years, but it was only in 2017 that he decided to make his art accessible to the world. And he did so because two friends, Nora Hauschild, his current manager, and Ilknur Özen, his current gallery owner and publisher, persuaded him to do so. The message of the texts and pictures goes beyond socio-critical and ethical content and addresses questions of being human, finding meaning and self-fulfillment.

From wax crayon to digital art

It was an existential crisis 30 years ago that triggered his sudden turn to art. Using wax crayons, he put his first painting on paper, entitled »Anfang« ("Beginning"), which was to herald a new era in his life in the truest sense of the word. While his work was initially strongly characterised by abstract painting, especially action painting, he is now primarily focused on digital art.
