ABOUT BISHOPS AND KNIGHTS TEMPLAR

A fortified structure dating back to Roman times in a strategic location, the
Château played host to the Bishop of Tours in the year 350 A.D. and kept his name from that time on. Handed over to the Crusaders by the Count of Provence, it became the stronghold of the Knights Templar in 1150 A.D. including the Saint-Martin Chapel. The Chapel remains to this day a place for private occasions, such as christenings and weddings.

THE TRANSFORMATION TO A HOTEL

The current building was built and completed on the foundations of the ancient
Templar Commanderie and was transformed it into a hotel for the first time in 1950s.
The actual transformation to a luxury hotel by the famous contemporary architect Luc Svetchine took place in 1997, after the Oetker family became the owner of Château Saint-Martin & Spa three years earlier.
