A historic encounter
Founded in 1989 by Luciano Passoni, the brand is the first company to produce titanium bicycles in Italy. Passoni was inspired by a chance encounter on the climb to the Madonna del Ghisallo near Lake Como. Halfway up the climb, Luciano Passoni, a keen amateur cyclist, met another rider with an unusual-looking frame. They struck up a conversation and the rider, Amelio Riva, told Passoni that he had built the frame himself from titanium - a material that was unknown in the cycling world at the time.
Passoni's curiosity was aroused, and he commissioned Riva to build him a frame from this exotic metal. Upon delivery, he was immediately fascinated by the potential of his new frame but tried unsuccessfully to convince Riva to build frames with him. Undeterred, Passoni set out and the brand was born.
