The beginnings

Having worked as a film producer in Italy and Germany, Gerry Ettinger used his extensive contacts in continental Europe and England to create a range of luxury gifts, which became renowned throughout the UK for quality and innovation. He quickly also established a manufacturing presence in St Johns Street, which is in London’s historical leather quarter, Clerkenwell.

It is from here that he established his company’s reputation for the finest leather goods and luggage allowing him to supply the best department stores around the country and, indeed, around the world. Gerry Ettinger first travelled to Japan in the early 1970s, starting a long and successful tradition of business in the Far East, which has greatly contributed to the company’s success today. A great enthusiast, he worked late into his 90s and passed over the reins of the company to his eldest son, Robert, in 1990.

The next generation

Robert Ettinger continued the tradition of craftsmanship and quality, but also brought in some more contemporary designs. Since then he has further internationalised the Ettinger brand and in 1999 acquired one of the oldest leather goods manufactories in the country, which, thanks to Ettinger’s special dedication to craft, employs some of the most skilled leather craftsmen in the UK.

Over the years, Ettinger has steadily extended its portfolio through a variety of carefully selected collaborations and the launch of different collections. With a quality of workmanship that is beyond reproach and a timeless but modern design, Ettinger has become one of the few luxury leather manufacturers of choice in the UK and abroad.
